why mr. ramen rocks

aside from being a general really-awesome-totally-adorable-just-want-to-kiss-him-super-sweet kind of guy (at least in my eyes), mr. ramen has been my design slave (i think i've mentioned this before... but it's definitely worth mentioning again). don't worry - i treat him well; he is paid in neck/back rubs and homemade dinners and extra cuddling with me while watching heroes (i'm totally missing this new season, boooo) or SYTYCD (again... missing this season).

our labor of love... what most of time together looks like; mr. ramen was re-working our invite design, while i was probably reading wb.

so i have all of these great ideas in my head, but i guess i have a hard time communicating them... and even when i draw them out... let's just say that my drawing skills are pretty much non-existant. mr. ramen just gets amused by my very disproportionate drawings. i actually tried to learn how to use photoshop (or was it illustrator?) i dunno... but it's a long process, i dislike it very much, and pretty much am inept when it comes to that program. soooooo.... mr. ramen got to be the one to bring my designs to life....
after showing him a million different pictures of things that i liked (not necessarily similar to each other at all...) we decided to go with something a little more cutesy and fun, than what i had originally though.

so i present to you, our SaveTheDate design! to save a little $$, we made it into a postcard, printed it with coupon codes from OvernightPrints.com (we went with the glossy coat on both sides), and handed out as many as we could in person.

after receiving our STDs (i totally know this is juvenile, but using the acronym "STD" sounds so inappropriate sometimes, it cracks me up. HAH!), lots of relatives were contacting us or our parents saying "it looks JUST like mr./miss ramen! how did they find something that looks like them?" why yes, mr. uber-talented ramen made them. yeahhhhhhhh. i'm marrying him.
anyways - whether we look like our cartoons, i'll let you be the judge of that. i think for sure mr. ramen looks like himself.... me? i dunno.....

where life imitates art - from one of our engagement shoots - this one w my sister

Here's the back of the postcard - to make it look a little more untraditional, we decided to switch up the direction of the words.... the heart was placed there since we knew we would be passing out a lot of them, and wanted it to still have the look of a postcard. The ampersands worked out perfectly to help me center the names; we used clear printer labels to address the STDs. I really wanted to balance out our sans serif font (GeoSansLight) with a pretty script - so i searched on myfonts.com FOREVER and found Luxus Brut. the rest is history...

So there you have it; our STDs! I'm so proud of Mr. Ramen's skeeeeelz (along with his bowhunting skills, nunchuk skills, and computer hacking skills). We've taken this design concept and incorporated it into our wedding website, which he ALSO designed, in Flash! I don't even really know what that means, except that I can't hit the "back" button on the site. Sigh. My hero.

Our next major paper project was working on our wedding invitations! We FINALLY finished the design for them and sent them off to be letterpressed by Kristin of Twin Ravens! I love her too.... And since we won't be sending them out until sometime in October, you'll just have to wait till then to see them! (I know, what a tease....)

What have you and your fiance collaborated on?
